We are very excited to have launched our new Reading Stars Scheme!

StarKids

Dear Parents,

We are launching our new ‘Reading Stars’ scheme to encourage fluency and reading for pleasure across the whole school. The children and staff are fired up and ready to bring reading into the heart of our curriculum.

All children are expected to read between 3 and 7 times a week in order to gain points towards their bronze, silver and gold badge awards over the year:

40 reads Bronze
100 reads Silver
170 reads Gold

It is imperative that an adult records each read that their child does in their reading record so that these can be collected and counted each week in school.

Children should read an appropriate level book with an adult. This can be the school reading book, a book from home or a library book. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions, challenge the children and discuss the reading. Please help them to find the meanings of new words so that they can share this in school with the class.

Daily quiet reading sessions are planned into our school day where all members of the school community will take the time to read. This is aimed at showing the value of reading together and the importance of reading for all.

We are starting to plan more whole school reading events into the school calendar and will let you know more details as they arise.

We hope that you will support us in encouraging our community to have a real sense of reading for pleasure.

If you have any questions, please speak to your class teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Mrs Chapman, Miss Flood and Mrs Cahill
