Ongoing Project Home Learning: Space Academy

Please note this task will part of our project and will be ongoing over the 6 weeks of our ‘Space Academy’ project. This is due in by Monday 14th December at the latest please.

Compulsory Task 1:

Have you ever noticed that the moon seems to look different each night? I wonder why this is…?

It is said that werewolves howl whenever it is a full moon. But how often do we see a full moon from Earth?

You mission, space rangers, during this project is to watch the moon for one whole month. You should begin recording on Friday 13th November and finish on Monday 14th December.

Record your observations through drawing on this this moon diary chart.

You should observe the moon at the same time each night and record what you see.

If it is cloudy, you can draw clouds over the moon’s surface. Focus on the shape of moon that is illuminated.

Upon returning them to school, we will discuss and investigate the phases of the moon further.

Optional Task 2: Solar System Model

If you would like to, it would be really exciting to see some 3D, 2D or drawn examples of the 8 planets in our solar system linked together. You could add some additional facts to each planet if you really want to impress us!

You may wish to think about…

which planets are the smallest?
which planets are the largest?
in which order do the planets line up?
which planets may have moons?
how big is each planet?
which colours may be seen on the surface of each of the planets?
