Year R – Plastic Pollution

Year R have been learning all about the problem of plastic in the oceans. We found out how it may harm wildlife and learnt about ways in which we can help.

We learnt to ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ and are thinking carefully about what we use in the classroom so we don’t waste resources.

Last week we invited our grown ups into the classroom to see what we have created from waste plastic (re-using!)

We made an ‘Art Attack’ of sea creatures using plastic waste from home which showed up how much plastic we use each week!

We made jelly-fish out of old plastic bags to remind ourselves that if we drop a plastic bag into the sea a turtle might mistake it for a jelly fish and eat it!

We also learnt about posters and made some to tell everyone about the plastic problem and give them ideas of how they can help:

Kinetico, a water filtration company in Segensworth, are holding a competition to highlight plastic waste and we have entered all our brilliant posters! We will find out if our children are one of the 7 winners soon! Their posters will be displayed at the Ideal Home Show! Good luck everyone πŸ™‚
